  • Discover celebrations from all over the world and follow along with the included hands-on activities! 

Phonics Focus: Digraphs Long ea sound

  • Tell students that long e can be spelled using ea. Have students look in the article for all the words that have the long e sound using the ea spelling. For an extra challenge, ask students, "Are there any ea words that do not make the long e sound?" What other spellings of long e can students find? (Hint: there are examples of each in the sidebar.)

Hands-on Activity: Me in 2023!

Skill: writing, self-awareness

Materials: Me in 2023! skill sheet, pencil, crayons

  • Students can reflect on the year 2023 and look forward to what's coming in 2024!
  • Ask students to hink about the past year. What kinds of things did they enjoy doing? What did they learn? Guide students to follow the prompts and fill out each part of the sheet.
  • Then have students think about the year ahead. Ask students what they hope will happen in the next year. Is there somewhere they would like to go? Would they like to learn something new? Are they excited for an upcoming birthday?
  • Have students color their drawings and post them in the classroom for a New Year display!
