  • Billy’s mom has a family at home and another one at work—with Billy’s firehouse “uncles.” Both families work together as a team, and Billy plays a special role in each one!

Grammar Hunt: Plural Nouns

  • Challenge kids to look for the plural nouns in the issue that end with s. Can you work together to find and circle them all?

Hands-On Activity: I'm a Fire Safety Expert!

Skill: fire safety, key details

Materials: “I’m a Fire Safety Expert” skill sheet, crayons, pencils

  • Pass out copies of the skill sheet and discuss each safety pledge with kids. Have them check off the box as they make each promise!
  • Then have them complete the sentence with one fact they learned from the issue. They can also color their certificates.
  • Have kids bring the certificates home to families and share their expertise! It’s an important topic to discuss, and kids will be proud to lead the conversation.
