  • The story is simply told and sure to inspire children to make their dreams come true.

  • Work together to find and circle the word could each time it appears in the issue.
  • Then use a different colored marker to find and circle each them.

Hands-On Activity: Observe Animals

Skill: observation and recording

Materials: computer, paper or science journal, pencils

  • Observe animals at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo— virtually! Visit https://nationalzoo.si.edu/ webcams and choose an animal to observe for a few minutes, having children record their findings in a science journal (or on plain paper).
  • They can use writing and drawing to answer these questions:
    • Where is the animal? What is its habitat like?
    • What does the animal look like?
    • What is the animal doing?
  • Once children are finished writing and drawing, they can choose a new animal and watch its webcam!
